Chapter History
The Omicron Nu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was chartered on April 25, 1998 at Duke University by Tiffany Monique Montgomery, Damaris Pricilla Turnball, Ayana Betae Burnett, Monique Nicole Moultrie, Carliss Nicole Chatman and Jennifer Lynne Downing. These six sophisticated young women sought to bring a new dimension to Greek Life at Duke, emphasizing community service as opposed to purely social activities.

Today the Omicron Nu chapter continues its commitment to the community through a variety of service projects, social programs, and fundraisers aimed at empowering and uplifting all people. Members of Omicron Nu are engaged in a wide array of activities on campus including academic research, Duke Greek Emerging Leaders, the Black Student Alliance and volunteering with Future Is Now (FIN). Annual chapter events include the Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness Program, Rholl Bounce, and an Academic Achievement Scholarship Brunch. Through programs such as these and its membership in the Dynamic Duke Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Omicron Nu maintains a positive presence on campus while promoting diversity and academic excellence.
